Coonabarabran NSW 2357
Coonabarabran is 450 km n-w of Sydney on the Castlereagh River and Newell Hwy in NW NSW. Coonabarabran is known as the ‘Astronomy Capital of Australia’ because of the nearby Sliding Springs Observatory. The region also boasts several amateur observatories as it is well suited for stargazing due to the clean air and rare formation of clouds. It is also the ‘Gateway to the Warrumbungles’ a rugged mountain range that surrounds the town.
